Seasons on Cape Breton
Cape Breton’s climate is, due to a large part because of the Gulf Stream, very moderate, which is ideal for people with allergies. Typical for maritime areas, the weather on Cape Breton is very diverse. The climate along the coasts is usually a little cooler and windier than on the inland. Although there is more rainfall on average than in Germany, it rarely rains for prolonged periods. After about 1 or 2 days of rain, the sun makes a welcomed return. Summer on Cape Breton
The winter season on Cape Breton usually gives way to the summer around
May within a matter of days. Within these few days the quiet and peaceful winter turns into a lush green summer. Many people think that Canada, with its longer winters and harsher climates typical of northern regions does not have a warm and long summer, this is simply not true. Temperatures of over 30 degrees centigrade are not unusual, especially in the warmer summer months of July and August. But the moderate climate extends long into September, making for a beautiful fall season. During the summer, many of the lakes and rivers, being warmed by the long sun filled days are ideal for water sports and swimming.
Fall on Cape Breton
After the summer months have passed a natural phenomenon occurs, the Indian summer. This time of the year is marked by temperatures of 20 degrees centigrade during the day, inviting hiking trips, while frost during the nights is not uncommon. It is exactly this alternating climate that leads to the beautiful coloration of the trees. The colors range from bright yellow (Birch), to strong orange (Lark), all the way to a shining red from all the Maple trees. This color play oftentimes extends well into October.

At the beginning of December the first light snowfalls begin and the snow covers the landscapes usually around Christmas. The main winter months are January, February, March, and parts of April, which makes winter sports very attractive on Cape Breton. Hobbies like downhill skiing, cross country skiing, snowmobile tours, ice fishing, and snowshoe walking can easily be satisfied on Cape Breton since the landscape has many hills and temperatures usually stay below zero degrees centigrade in the winter. The climate is usually dry and sunny which makes it enjoyable and benefits health. Because of the dry cold, temperatures of minus 20 degree centigrade at night are not felt as overly cold.
